Letter: My Neighbor in Need bids farewell

My Neighbor In Need was an organization which provided assistance to struggling residents of the Sauk Prairie area with one particular need.  Our group and 116 community donors were able to help 280 neighbors over the past 12 years.

A View of the Valley June 26, 2025

In 2019, the Spring Green Arts & Crafts Fair celebrated 50 years of being the premier event of the summer in this area. The next two fairs, in 2020 and 2021, were cancelled because of the covid-19 pandemic. Now, in 2025, the fair is 56 years old even though this isn’t the 56th anniversary of the fair.

Letter: So much for laws

In his June 5 letter Daniel Holzman tells us, "So far, we are blessed to have some ethical district court judges who follow the Constitution and rule of law.  They have rejected the corrupt, MAGA Administration."  In the next paragraph, he repeats himself; "...the judges work to preserve the rule of law and the American Constitution."

Letter: Occupaws thanks Lions Club for support

Occupaws Organization wants to thank the Plain Lions Club for hosting the Plain Brat stand May 30 and 31. Also the local communities for their full support they are amazing that is given to this worthy cause. The Lions club turned over the all proceeds to Occupaws. It was a great weekend !!

I wish peace to our whole country tomorrow. (And every day.) It is a day when millions of people will be rallying for causes they believe in. They will be rallying to support, not to blame. We Americans can so easily get drawn into combative conversations and angry exchanges.

A View of the Valley June 19, 2025

The air filled with that heady scent of sweat, suntan lotion and freshly cut grass is a sure sign of summer that makes my cup runneth over. It seems hard to believe the longest day of summer is here already and days are going to be getting shorter. Only by a tiny bit. Day by day. But still.

STANEK COLUMN: Roundabouts are not that bad

Reedsburg’s newest roundabout was set to open this week. Like so many of you, I’ve waited in anticipation of not only seeing it in action but also driving down to check out the new developments on that side of town.
