Heights rolls on

What’s a defensive coordinator to do? When it comes to stopping Wisconsin Heights’ high-powered offenses, no foe has come up with a good plan yet this year. The Vanguards continued their terrific season last Friday with a 48-32 win over Oakfield. Heights improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Great 8 Conference with a home game against first place Newman Catholic (4-0, 6-0) on tap for Friday at 7 p.m. “We have done a nice job of forcing our opponents to pick their poison, which is what we wanted to do since day one,” Heights coach Trevor Steiner said. “We’ve had only one game where we did not execute taking what the defense has given us. I know what I would try if I had to defend us, but I’m not saying!” Whatever that secret is, opposing teams have yet to discover it. And Oakfield, one of the top programs in 8-man football, didn’t have any answers for Heights either. Wide receiver Jack Fields had a monstrous night, hauling in eight passes for 263 yards and four touchdowns. In six games now, Fields has 32 catches for 833 yards and 10 touchdowns. “Jack has had such an incredible season so far,” Steiner said of Fields. “We are so fortunate to have that kind of ability and mindset of all our receivers throughout our program right now.
