Caroline A. Ederer,
Caroline A. Ederer, age 96, passed away at Maplewood Nursing Home on Monday, January 20, 2020. She was born April 18, 1923, the daughter of John and Lillian (Liegel) Brickl. She was married to Alfred A. Ederer on February 11, 1942.
Devoted to her faith and her family, Caroline gave deeply to those she loved, whether through a meal to fill your belly or a prayer to fill your soul. She modeled for her family a love of God, music, gardening, baking, quilting and knitting…and a bit of mischief. Her kitchen was often filled with boisterous games of sheepshead or euchre with homemade wine and brandy slush. A skilled baker with a self-deprecating manner, she would often serve her desserts with the disclaimer that they “weren’t very good,” but your stomach always knew better—they’d be the best thing you’d eat all week.
She gained great joy from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and time with them was never spent idly. She would often take them berry-picking, up to clean the shrine on St. Anne’s Hill, or sit them down for a religion class, game, or a song at her piano. Her grandchildren remember most fondly her love of card games and the consequences to losing those games--dolling out the funniest and most creative punishments to whichever unfortunate grandchild lost the latest game of pig.
Caroline is survived by her five sons, Don (Jan) Ederer of Plain, Carl (Diane) Ederer of Plain, John (Donna) Ederer of Prairie du Sac, Fred (Patsy) Ederer of Prairie du Sac and Robert (Lori) Ederer of Plain; 24 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. Caroline is further survived by two brothers, Jerry Brickl of Hillsboro and John (Ginny) Brickl of Mauston, in addition to two sister-in-laws, Rose Brickl of Onalaska and Kathleen (Jerry) Meise of Plain and many nieces and nephews. Caroline was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, her parents, three brothers Ed, Ralph and Carly Brickl; three sisters, Elsie Alt, Margaret Mundth and Marcella Faber; granddaughter Teresa Ederer and daughter-in-law Rosie Ederer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 3, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain, Wisconsin. Father John Silva will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2020 from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. at the Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green and again on Monday, February 3, 2020 at the church from 9:30 until time of the funeral service.
