Sauk Prairie swimmers go unbeaten in duals

It’s been a wild, wacky year when it comes to high school sports. But it’s also turning out to be a remarkably satisfying one for Sauk Prairie’s girls swimming and diving team. The Eagles rolled past Portage, 134-29, last Tuesday and finished their dual meet season undefeated. “We have been very thankful to have a swim season this year,” Sauk Prairie coach Melani Guentherman said. “Once we beat Baraboo in the first dual meet, we had the idea that we could try to win our dual meets. With so much uncertainty in the season, trying to win the dual meets gave the girls something positive to rally around.   “Accomplishing that goal took the entire team and has provided a very positive sense of accomplishment for all of the girls. I am proud of how hard the team has worked in the pool and outside the pool while adhering to new safety protocols.” The Eagles had another terrific meet against Portage. In the 200-meter medley relay, Ashley Pape, Amelia Hunter, Savannah Acker and Kassandra Miller teamed up to finish first, while the foursome of Carly Coy, Trinity Doerre, Cora Dunnum and Riley Talmage was second. In the 200-meter freestyle relay, the quartet of Dunnum, Jade Babcock, Lauryn Drager and Hunter was first, while Acker, Coy, Emily VandeHey and Grace Orr was second. And in the 400-meter freestyle relay, Talmage, Orr, Doerre and VandeHey teamed up to finish first, while the quartet of Miller, Pape, Drager and Allyson Saladis was second. Acker, Orr and VandeHey went 1-2-3 in the 200-meter freestyle, while Hunter was first in the 200-meter IM and Pape was third. Dunnum, Miller and Drager were first, second and third, respectively, in the 50-meter freestyle, while Dunnum won the 100-meter butterfly and Drager was third. Talmage was first in the 100-meter freestyle and Miller was second, while Talmage also won the 100-meter backstroke and Pape was second. And in the 100-meter breaststroke, Acker, Hunter and Coy went 1-2-3, respectively. “Riley Talmage had a great meet with two individual wins,” Guentherman said. “Savannah Acker and Cora Dunnum continue to look sharp and won each of their individual events as well. Emily VandeHey had her first varsity victory in the 400-meter freestyle.” • On deck: Sauk Prairie will compete at the Baraboo Quadrangular Thursday at 6 p.m. The quad will include Portage, River Valley, Sauk Prairie and Baraboo.
