River Valley Blackhawk wrestlers take on Viroqua

The River Valley High School boys wrestling team traveled to Viroqua last Tuesday night for a non-conference dual meet. River Valley won the meet over Viroqua 37-30.  “It was great to see us going for attacks right out of the bat,” said River Valley co-head coach Dan Machovec. “We have focused hard on hitting a shot right away in matches and give ourselves a chance at getting the first points. It helps your confidence when you score that first point in a match and set the tone for the rest of the match. It was something we were missing as a team. We had individuals who always take the first shot and push the pace, but it was great to see multiple wrestlers approach their matches that way last night. We had some unsung heroes as well. This was an ultimate team win. The best part is there is still plenty of room for improvement. Our conditioning has been a strength this year. There are times you can tell that our cardio levels are what helps us be successful on the mat. I couldn’t be more proud of how hard they battled against a good Viroqua team.
