River Valley wrestlers win double dual, head to regionals

The River Valley Blackhawks traveled to Belmont last Friday night for a double dual with Belmont/Platteville and Monroe. River Valley won both duals, with final scores of River Valley 30 – Belmont/Platteville 18 and River Valley 30 – Monroe 21.  “Overall I’m pleased with the dual season that we had this year,” said River Valley co-head coach Dan Machovec. “Last year we won a total of two dual meets and placed 5th in the conference, in regards to duals. This year we ended up placing 3rd in conference and had a combined dual record of 7 wins and 5 losses. That is a true testament to the leadership on this team. I cannot tell you how proud I am that they do not complain.” Individual results for the dual with Belmont/Platteville are: 106: double forfeit. 113: Braden Prochaska RV wins by forfeit. 120: double forfeit. 126: double forfeit. 132: John Burbach B/P wins by fall over Cole White RV 3:26. 138: Jimmy Jennings RV wins in SV 1 over Dylan Taber B/P 3-1. 145: Landon Radtke RV wins by decision over Tanner Paulson B/P 11-8. 152: Keeghan Kjos RV wins by forfeit. 160: Payton Nielson B/P wins by forfeit. 170: double forfeit. 182: double forfeit. 195: Jake Bindl RV wins by forfeit. 220: Logan Tonstand RV wins by forfeit. 285: Michael Douglas B/P wins by fall over Brett Bindl RV 1:00. It for sure is going to be a different tournament than in the past but the goals don’t change. We have to take it one match at a time. If we continue to be aggressive in all positions, we will be successful. There is no doubt in my mind that these wrestlers want to get a River Valley wrestler back to the state tournament. We didn’t have anyone represent our team last year and we are doing all we can to get at least one wrestler there. It’s going to be an exciting next couple of weeks.” This Saturday the boys travel to Richland Center for regionals.
