Co-op hockey keeps rolling

Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team, which includes skaters from Mount Horeb, enjoyed another big week, winning two of three games. The Eagles cruised past Stoughton, 11-0, on Jan. 18, then suffered their first loss of the year, a 3-2 setback to Beaver Dam on Jan. 19. Sauk Prairie rebounded, though, and toppled Onalaska/La Crosse, 6-3, on Jan. 21. The Eagles are now a stellar 10-1 on the year. Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie week: • Sauk Prairie 11, Stoughton 0 — Luke Mast had three goals and an assist as the Eagles rolled past the Vikings. Hakon Peterson added two goals and two assists, while Brodie Trollop and Nick Mast each had two goals and one assist. Sam Severson added a goal and two assists, while Caeben Schomber had a goal. Kaden Stracke and Brooks McInerney bith had three saves in goal. Sauk Prairie raced to a 5-0 lead after the first period, extended that lead to 7-0 after the second and cruised home. • Beaver Dam 3, Sauk Prairie 2 — Erik Peterson and Nick Mast had goals for Sauk Prairie, but it wasn’t enough. Eagles goalie Kaden Stracke had 25 saves in the defeat. • Sauk Prairie 6, Onalaska/La Crosse 3 — The Eagles rallied from a 3-2 deficit by scoring the final four goals of the game.  Sauk Prairie trailed, 3-2, late in the second period when Luke Mast had an even strength goal on an assist from Erik Peterson to tie the game, 3-3. At 6:43 of the third period, Sam Severson scored on an assist from Brodie Trollop to give the Eagles a 4-3 edge. Hakon Peterson had a power play goal on assists from Luke Mast and Nick Mast to make it 5-3. Finally, with just 35 seconds left, Luke Mast had an empty net goal and the Eagles posted an impressive win. Kaden Stracke had 21 assists to notch the win.
