Girls basketball team takes home a win

The River Valley High School girls basketball team had three games this past week. They started the week off in Riverdale on Tuesday night. River Valley jumped out to a 18-5 lead to start the game.  The halftime score was 37-18 River Valley. Riverdale put on a furious comeback and tied the game at 60.  River Valley took a four point lead at 64-60.  Lexi DeViney hit a three with 7 seconds left to give River Valley a 73-67 lead and the win. River Valley was led in scoring by DeViney with 25.  Karina Osborn had 14 points, followed by Brooklyn Stokes with 12, Lydia Willoughby with 10, and Addie Lilla with 8. The second part of the week was played at home. Thursday night River Valley hosted Prairie du Chien for a 63-20 loss. DeViney lead the Hawks with six points. Friday night the girls traveled to Viroqua for a close game. Viroqua went up 11-5 at the half. Shortly into the second half River Valley brought the game close with a score of 23-22. River Valley head coach Darrell Parrish gave the play by play of the last minutes,  “River Valley had three chances to tie the score or take the lead in the last 20 seconds. Viroqua hit one free throws to go up three. Valley’s last chance was with 0.9 seconds. Karina Osborn hit Lexi DeViney  at half court. Lexi tipped it away from three Viroqua players, caught it turned and was a little strong on the shot. Final score 29-26 Viroqua,” said River Valley Head coach Darrell Parrish. This week the girls started in Ithaca on Monday. Tuesday they hosted Mauston. Friday night the girls will go to Platteville for a game at 7:30 p.m.
