River Valley wrestling teams travel to sectional meet

The River Valley High School varsity wrestling teams traveled to the WIAA division two sectional C at Wisconsin Dells this past weekend. The top finishing wrestlers from the regional matches met to decide who will compete at the state meet.  River Valley co-head coach Dan Machovec spoke of the day saying, “Wyatt Nachreiner qualified for the state tournament by avenging a couple losses to Christian Schuh of Monroe. Wyatt lost to him twice this year and ended up beating him twice. They are very strong competitors and Christian made it to state last year. Wyatt wrestled a very aggressive match. He opened up the second period with a strong reversal and a tilt. He ended the match in the third period with a great low single for two points. It was amazing to see him regain his composure after losing a tough semi-final match against Lohmar. Wyatt has been so close to defeating him twice and just came up short at the end. His mental toughness to bounce back and beat Schuh to go to state shows how bad he wanted it. “Mason Schulte ended up wrestling two matches and unfortunately did not advance. Blake Brickl had a tough first round match and his opponent lost the next round, so his day was cut short. Both of these wrestlers return next year and should be hungry to make that big jump to state. Wyatt was in their position last year and made the adjustments to get to state the following year.  “Our girls wrestled so well! Cheyenne Reis ended her career, but had her most successful year of wrestling. Aubrey Conway, Olive Corbit, and Montana Joles all placed 3rd/4th. They unfortunately didn’t let the girls wrestle for third place matches.
