Nachreiner competes in state meet

River Valley junior Wyatt Nachreiner traveled to the WIAA state wrestling meet this past week. Nachreiner competed in division two in the 150 pound weight class. Jacob Durocher of Wrightstown (44-11) won by decision over Wyatt Nachreiner (36-11) in the first round of competition. River Valley co-head coach Dan Machovec provided commentary of the event, saying, “Wyatt ended up getting the 10th seed, which we thought he was better than, but seeding criteria is very complicated at state. We knew his first round match up was going to be a challenge. We game planned all week for that Thursday night match up knowing if he lost it then he was done for the weekend. Wyatt looked very confident and comfortable on the mat. I made the comment to (co-head coach T.J.) Wunnicke about how full the arena seemed this year, to later find out it was a sold out crowd. It’s not easy to wrestle in front of a large group and Wyatt did an excellent job. He ended up losing to Jacob Durocher of Wrightstown 2-0. He hit a switch on Wyatt and Wyatt immediately hit a reswitch but his opponent was ready and ended up on top for the reversal. His opponent went on to place third. This experience was a huge confidence booster for Wyatt. We have always felt Wyatt belonged and now he knows. His goals have elevated and he’s already making plans for getting better for next year. He has gotten a bunch of teammates to sign up to wrestle a tournament in a couple of weeks.
