Nehring caps career at state

Her career was packed with one glorious showing after another. Vault routines. Beam performances.  All-around brilliance. So even though Sara Nehring’s trip to the WIAA Division 2 individual state gymnastics meet in Wisconsin Rapids last Saturday wasn’t her best, her overall body of work during a magnificent season had everyone smiling from ear to ear. Nehring, a Sauk Prairie senior, finished in 24th place on the uneven bars and in 25th place on the vault during her first-ever trip to state. And even though Nehring would have loved to better those marks, her trip to state was one she’ll never forget. “She did have an incredible year and state was bittersweet, as she was proud of herself for getting there, but also sad that it was her last competition,” Eagles’ coach Justine Anderson said. “She didn’t land her vault, and had an average bar routine, but she came off the bars letting out all the emotions she’d been holding in about her gymnastics career coming to an end. It was a very sweet moment, and despite State not being her best meet, I couldn’t have been more proud of her.” Nehring earned a trip to state after shining at the Mount Horeb Sectional. There, she posted a 8.950 on the vault and an 8.575 on the uneven bars. Nehring had a tough day at state with an 8.133 on the bars and a 7.933 on the vault. Afterwards, though, everyone in Camp Nehring was focused on the macro — not the micro — from her brilliant season and career. “She had an extremely consistent and confident season and has grown so much as a person this year,” Anderson said of Nehring. “She let me push her, trusted my judgement — even when she didn’t agree — and allowed me to help her grow. “She will be going off to Nationals this year to represent Wisconsin, but that was her last time competing with me, and it’s emotional. She’s leaving some pretty big shoes to fill.”
