Teela named all-conference

Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team didn’t have the success it hoped for this year. The Vanguards did land one player on the all-Capitol South team, though, as senior guard Mikayla Teela was named honorable-mention all-conference. Teela led the Vanguards in scoring with 9.7 points per game. She was also first in steals (2.7) and assists (2.4), and tied for third in rebounds (5.0). Heights finished the year 4-18 overall and 1-9 in the Capitol South. “I believe she should have been second team (all-conference) based on her stats compared to girls who were voted second team ahead of her,” Heights coacg Tyler Fuchs said. “This recognition is well deserved for Mikayla as she led our team in most categories and was a great leader on and off the court. She will be truly missed next season and leaves some big shoes to fill.” New Glarus senior Lindsey Schadewalt was named the conference’s Player of the Year. The rest of the first team consisted of Belleville sophomore Toria DeVoe, Belleville junior Maddi DeSmet, Cambridge junior Brooke Stenklyft and Cambridge senior Saveea Freeland.
