Rough week

Wisconsin Heights’ girls softball team dropped three games last week and fell to 1-13 on the season. Here’s a recap of the Vanguards’ week: • Barneveld 11, Wisconsin Heights 1 — The Vanguards committed four errors and allowed 10 hits in a loss on April 29. Lauren Smith scored Heights’ lone run in the second inning when she doubled, advanced to third on a Maya Luko sacrifice bunt, and scored on a wild pitch.  • Waterloo 13, Wisconsin Heights 3 — The Vanguards struck for three runs in the fourth inning, but it wasn’t enough to topple the host Pirates on April 30. Haley Wipperfurth led off the fourth with a double to left-center field and advanced to third on an overthrow on the relay. Two batters later, Avery Graham had an RBI single, then Lauren Smith reached, as well, putting two Vanguards on. Alyssa Staplemann followed with a hit that scored Graham, then Izzy Sutherland had a run-scoring single that plated Smith. • Monticello/New Glarus 7, Wisconsin Heights 2 — Vanessa Wagner threw well for the Vanguards, but Heights hurt itself with eight errors. One bright spot for Heights was reserves Shena Clerkin and Clara Sorgatz both had base hits. Haley Wipperfurth and Wagner had hits, as well. • On deck: Heights was preparing for a crazy week in which it was scheduled to play five games in five days. The Vanguards were at Belleville Monday and at Riverdale Tuesday. Heights was at Cambridge Wednesday, then hosts Belleville Thursday at 5 p.m., and travels to Potosi/Cassville Friday at 4:30 p.m. “The rain has caused many rescheduled games in the past two weeks, which has brought several cancelled games,” coach Scott Wood said. “With three conference games to play we are hoping to surprise some conference teams.”   GOLF Wisconsin Heights’ boys golf team finished in eighth place at a Capitol Conference mini-meet held at Lake Ripley Country Club on April 29. Cambridge won the event with 159-team score. Heights finished at 206. Luke Herrling and Greyden Schomber led the Vanguards with 50s. Theo Glemain shot a 52 and Logan Duhr carded a 54. Heights also finished eighth at a conference mini-meet held at Lake Mills Golf Club on May 2. Cambridge won that event with a 160, while Heights shot a 207. Glemain led Vanguards with a 49, while Ethan Myers carded a 50. Duhr added a 53 and Schomber shot a 55.
