Boys lacrosse team receives No. 15 seed

Sauk Prairie’s boys lacrosse team received the No. 15 seed in its sectional and will host 18th-seeded Brookfield Central/East in a regional quarterfinal on May 24. The winner of that game travels to second-seeded Kettle Moraine/St. John’s Northwestern for a regional semifinal on May 28. The Eagles are currently 3-9 following a week in which they dropped two of three games. Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s week: • Sauk Prairie 5, Watertown 4 — Sophomore attacker Zander Kellogg had three goals to power the Eagles past the Goslings on May 6. Sophomore midfielder AJ Klemm added a goal and an assist, while senior midfielder Will Judge had a goal. Sophomore attacker Drew Strathman, senior defenseman Steve Romaker and sophomore midfielder Josh Mast all added an assist. “This was Watertown’s senior night, so they came out with a ton of energy and played very physical lacrosse,” Sauk Prairie coach Zach Lare said. “It was great to see our boys step up and match that physicality. “Our boys were extremely sloppy on ground balls ... and this was the main reason this game was tight. It was a low scoring game, but Zander Kellogg shined with a hat trick to lead our scoring.” • Verona 13, Sauk Prairie 0 — The Wildcats had 10 first half goals and ran away from the Eagles on May 8. “We were down big after the first half, but tightened up in the second half, holding Verona to three goals,” Lare said. • DeForest 10, Sauk Prairie 5 — Sophomore attacker Zander Kellogg had two goals for the Eagles, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Norskies on May 10. “We came out flat this game,” Lare said. “We began playing really well in the second half, however, this was one of those games where the clock was an extra defenseman as we just caught our spark too late.” Sophomore midfielder Hayden Struse-Clark, senior defender Karsyn Banta and sophomore attacker Kaleb Chetwood all added goals. Sophomore midfielder AJ Klemm had an assist. “Zander again led the way with our scoring — netting two goals — but Karsyn was the energizer to help turn the momentum,” Lare said. “We had some big hits from him, along with him collecting six ground balls, which helped us get rolling.”
