Baseball Eagles set for playoffs

Sauk Prairie’s baseball team received the No. 8 seed in its sectional and will host ninth-seeded Wisconsin Dells on Thursday at 5 p.m. in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal. The Eagles finished the regular season 8-15 after splitting a pair of games with Madison Edgewood last week. Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s final two regular season games. • Madison Edgewood 3, Sauk Prairie 2 — The host Crusaders scratched across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and edged the Eagles on May 14. Austin Pagel threw a terrific game for the Eagles, allowing three runs — none earned — in 6 2/3 innings. Pagel gave up just two hits, struck out eight and walked three. Cayden Hermsdorf had an RBI for Sauk Prairie, which managed just two hits in the loss. • Sauk Prairie 5, Madison Edgewood 2 — The Eagles pounded out 10 hits and downed the Crusaders on Senior Night. Jackson Breunig went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, while Bryan Breunig went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Marta Hanna went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Boden Frosch scored a pair of runs. Brason Ballweg threw five strong innings and picked up the win. Ballweg allowed five hits, two earned runs, struck out two and walked four. Jackson Breunig then threw the final two innings, didn’t allow a run, gave up just one hit and struck out two.
