Wildman, Gavol shine at conference

Sauk Prairie’s No. 1 doubles team of Ayden Wildman and Sebastian Gavol had a tremendous showing at the Badger Conference tournament last Friday and Saturday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Eagles’ top pair won their first two matches and finished fourth in their flight. Wildman and Gavol opened with a 6-1, 6-2 win over McFarland’s Caden Komro and Cole Willems. Sauk Prairie’s duo then rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over Waunakee’s George Zimbric and Jaxon Wipperfurth.  In the semifinals, Baraboo’s George Stelling and Will Davies edged Gavol and Wildman, 6-4, 7-5. Then in the third place match, Wildman and Gavol dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Reedsburg’s Jordan Matyas and Simon Wenninger.  Wildman and Gavol were the only Eagles’ players to register any wins. Here’s how the rest of Sauk Prairie’s players performed:         SINGLES No. 1 — Boden Bruni lost his match to Waunakee’s Nevan Lipari, 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 — Sauk Prairie’s Charlie Endres dropped his opening match to Beaver Dam’s Myles Nampel, 6-2, 6-1. No. 3 — The Eagles’ Gavin Kreuger dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Edgewood’s Hayden Meier, 6-0, 6-1. • No. 4 — Edgewood’s Sawyer Korb downed Sauk Prairie’s Logan Sorg, 6-0, 6-0.           DOUBLES No. 2 — The Eagles’ Adam Kaukl and Levi Shadewald fell to Edgewood’s Zach Wolter and Jameson Cary, 6-0, 6-1. No. 3 — McFarland’s Ryan Hudgens and Connor Saphos defeated Sauk Prairie’s Sean Jager and Wyatt Frey, 6-2, 6-3.
