Eagles’ spikers win own invite

Winning a tournament is always special for a team. Winning your own invite is even more exciting. Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team did just that last Saturday, capturing its own tournament. The Eagles went 6-0 on the day and won the Sauk Prairie Invite in convincing fashion. “We always hope to take first place in every tournament that we play, but it’s especially important to us when we play on our home court,” Eagles coach Allison Steinmetz said. “We had a lot of fans in and out of the building and we were excited to share our win with all of them.” The Eagles defeated Lodi 25-12, 25-22 and downed Prairie du Chien, 25-20, 25-19. Sauk Prairie upended Oregon, 27-25, 25-20, and held off a gritty Reedsburg squad, 25-22, 21-25,16-14. The Eagles followed that by defeating Darlington,  25-15, 25-15, and topping Beloit Memorial, 25-13, 25-9 Mallory Hartwig led the Eagles with 48 kills, 25 digs and nine aces, while Gracyn Meyer had 33 kills and 15 blocks. Alaina Kraemer added 18 kills, nine aces and six blocks, while Greta Shadewald had 114 assists and 12 aces. Ella Logterman had seven aces and six blocks, while Macee Gulden added seven aces. “Every single player on our team was able to play in the tournament at some point today, and that was also very important to me,” Steinmetz said. “Looking forward to what this season has in store for our girls.” • On deck: The Eagles host McFarland Thursday at 7 p.m., then head to the Sussex Hamilton Invite Friday and Saturday at the Milwaukee Sting Center.
