Soccer Eagles split a pair

Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer team split a pair of games last week. The Eagles defeated Portage, 9-0, on Sept. 24. Sauk Prairie also fell to Sun Prairie East, 4-2, on Sept. 28. The Eagles are now 4-7-2 overall and 3-1 in the Badger Conference. Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s week: • Sauk Prairie 9, Portage 0 — Cris Quezada Godoy scored three goals, while Ben Hanko and Roberto Alcantar Ramirez both had two goals as the Eagles rolled past the Warriors. “We were still down quite a few players in hopes of a full return next week,” Eagles’ coach Drew Kornish said. “This Portage game was an important one for us as we look to the postseason. Portage is a sectional game meaning we will be ranked with them for the postseason.” The Eagles didn’t score until the 16th minute, then erupted for six goals before the first half was over. Hanko struck first on an assist from Quazada Godoy. Then Quazada Godoy scored on an assist from Roberto Alcantar Ramirez, and Guadalupe Alcantar Ramirez made it 3-0 on an assist from Lincoln Ganser. Myles Reithmiller scored on an assist from Quazada Godoy to make it 4-0, then Roberto Alcantar Ramirez scored back-to-back goals to make it 6-0 at halftime. Quazada Godoy scored in the 43rd and 45th minute, then Hanko scored in the 50th minute on an assist by Diego Estrada Rivera to make it 9-0. The game was then stopped due to the mercy rule. “We got off to a bit of a slow start, but had positive possession and were able to break through,” Kornish said. “Once we did that, we were able to see the game out.” • Sun Prairie East 4, Sauk Prairie 2 — Angel Ibarra and Lincoln Ganser had goals for the Eagles against a strong East side (7-3-1). The teams were tied, 2-2, at halftime before East pulled away in the second half. “This game was always going to be a growing opportunity for our side,” Kornish said. “We were again without four starters and lost our goalkeeper, Ghio Puga, early in the match. In the end, we did not have the legs to sustain the halftime score.” • On deck: The Eagles hosted Baraboo Tuesday, then hostb Tomah Friday at 7 p.m.
