Sauk Prairie’s cross country teams shine at Platteville Invite

Sauk Prairie’s girls cross country team finished fourth at the Platteville Invite last Saturday. Sauk Prairie’s boys also had a terrific day, finishing ninth out of 26 teams. “Overall, our teams competed very well with some of the best teams in Southwestern Wisconsin,” Eagles coach Andy Sherman said. “We are starting to see the hard work that these athletes have been putting in come to fruition.” Lancaster won the girls’ team title with 45 points, while Union Grove (93), Monroe (108), Sauk Prairie (118) and Mount Horeb (146) rounded out the top-five at the 23-team invite. Aaliyah Bermudo was the Eagles’ top finisher, placing ninth overall and finishing the 5,000-meter run in 20 minutes, 31.70 seconds. Savannah Liegel was 15th (20:47.60), Clarissa Brickl was 31st (21:27.30), Maya Dischler was 32nd (21:29.90) and Lainey Dillon was 34th (21:36.90). Sauk Prairie’s boys also had a terrific day, finishing ninth out of 26 teams. McFarland won the team title with 46 points, while the Eagles finished with 277 points. Austin Smith was the Eagles’ top finisher, placing 33rd and completing the 5,000-meter course in 18:05.00. Jacob Wiegmann was 34th (18:06.70), Charlie Endres was 55th (18:47.40), Hunter Brensike was 58th (18:53.50) and John Fabian was 102nd (19:45.20). “It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of our season, with only Wisconsin Rapids left before conference and sectionals,” Sherman said. “This is the best part of the season and I cannot wait to see how it ends up for these groups.” • On deck: Sauk Prairie is at the Wisconsin Rapids Invite on Saturday at 10 a.m., then heads to the Badger Small Conference meet Oct. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at Norsk Golf Club.
