Eagles’ soccer team receives No. 2 seed

If Drew Kornish is anything, he’s honest. Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer coach was candid and straight forward when discussing the week that was for his Eagles. “There isn’t much to say,” Kornish said. No there wasn’t. The Eagles dropped a pair of games and fell to 6-9-2 overall and 4-2 in the Badger Small Conference. Sauk Prairie dropped a 1-0 decision to Madison Edgewood on Oct. 8. The Eagles then fell to Madison Memorial, 4-2, on Oct. 10. In Sauk Prairie’s loss to Edgewood, it possessed the ball a solid percentage of the game, but couldn’t convert. “We had good possession but were not able to make it count,” Kornish said. “Edgewood did a good job in back taking away our chances.” In the Eagles’ loss to Madison Memorial, Angel Ibarra scored on an assist from Lincon Ganser and Gio Garcia Martinez scored on an assist from Jayden Arrieta.   But the Spartans were simply too strong offensively. “Memorial is a good ranked D1 side,” Kornish said. “I would say it was a bit closer than the scoreline. As we progress and focus on the postseason, we need to be better in our defensive third of the field.” • On deck: The Eagles hosted Mount Horeb Tuesday, then are at Oregon Thursday at 7 p.m. in their final regular season game of the year. • Postseason path: The Eagles received the No. 2 seed in their half of the sectional and will begin the postseason by hosting No. 7 seed Reedsburg on Oct. 22. If Sauk Prairie wins there, it would host the winner of third-seeded Baraboo and sixth-seeded La Crosse Central on Oct. 26. DeForest is the No. 1 seed on Sauk Prairie’s half of the bracket, and if seeds holds, the Eagles and Norskies would meet Oct. 31 in a sectional semifinal.  New Richmond, Holmen and Marshfield are the top three seeds on the other half of the bracket. If the Eagles reach the sectional finals, one of those teams would be the most likely opponent.
