Heights’ Caminiti wins conference crown

Kirk Caminiti won the Capitol South Conference cross country championship last Saturday and almost carried his Vanguards team to a title, as well. Caminiti won the individual championship, completing the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 24.3 seconds. That was 27 seconds faster than runner-up Ayden Wilkins of New Glarus/Monticello. Waterloo won the team title with 46 points, just edging Wisconsin Heights (49). New Glarus/Monticello was third with 76 points, while Deerfield/Cambridge (101), Marshall (106) and Belleville (108) rounded out the scoring. Wisconsin Heights’ Travis Dreikosen was fourth individually (18:03.3), Noah Doescher was ninth (18:49.5), Mason Durst was 16th (19:03.5) and Trevor Owens was 19th (19:37.6). Deerfield/Cambridge won the girls’ race with 25 points. Wisconsin Heights was fifth with 118. Tirzah Caminiti was the Vanguards’ top finisher, placing 11th and completing the 5,000-meter course in 23 minutes, 0.0 seconds. Bella Muschitz was 19th (23:58.3), Brisa Nicholes was 23rd (24:29.6), Natalie Wilson was 31st (25:56.6) and Sofija Lang was 34th (26:27.4).
