Season ends for Heights’ XC teams

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys cross country team finished in 12th place at the 16-team WIAA Division 2 Deerfield/Cambridge Sectional last Saturday. The Vanguards’ girls were 14th out of 16 teams. The top two teams qualified for state, as well as the first five individuals who are not members of a qualifying team. The Vanguards didn’t qualify as a team or have any individuals earn a state berth. Heights/Barneveld senior Kirk Caminiti led the Vanguards with a 16th place overall finish, completing the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 39.33 seconds. Junior Travis Dreikosen was 37th in  (17:37.29), junior Noah Doescher was 61st (18:20.28), freshman Mason Durst was 74th (18:45.67) and sophomore Andrew Murray was 97th (20:05.05). Monroe won the boys title with 55 points, while Dodgeville/Mineral Point was second (66). The Vanguards finished with 285 points. Mount Horeb won the girls title with 56 points, while Lancaster was second with 64. Heights/Barneveld finished with 402 points. Junior Tirzah Caminiti led the Vanguards with a 63rd place finish (22:35.77).  Junior Bela Muschitz was 70th (22:51.56), junior Brisa Nicholes was 77th (23:26.46), freshman Natalie Wilson was 93rd (24:35.40) and freshman Sofija Lang was 99th (26:17.46).
