Sauk Prairie’s boys lose two of three

It was a tough week for Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team, which dropped two of three games. The Eagles defeated Reedsburg, 62-53, on Dec. 10. La Crosse Central downed Sauk Prairie, 60-48, on Dec. 12. Then McFarland edged the Eagles, 54-52, last Saturday. Sauk Prairie is now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Badger Small Conference. “Tough week for us,” Eagles coach Sean McGann said. “We played three really quality teams.” Here’s a recap of the Eagles’ week. • Sauk Prairie 62, Reedsburg 53 — Casey Brickl had 17 points, four assists and three rebounds to power the Eagles. “Casey Brickl had a nice week and the beauty of his game is it is one that travels because it is based on how hard he plays,” McGann said. “His effort … has earned him time on the floor. He’s an awesome competitor and one I’m glad we have on our team.”  Otis Andres added 13 points and six rebounds, while Jake Buckles had nine points and four rebounds. Brendan Marquardt chipped in eight points and four rebounds, while Braden Schaaf had eight points, as well. “Our game against Reedsburg was as physical of a game as I’ve seen in a while,” McGann said. “I was really proud of our team and how we pulled through with some big plays down the stretch.” • La Crosse Central 60, Sauk Prairie 48 — Otis Andres had 25 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Eagles.  “I’ve always known that Otis could be a great player, but we only saw flashes of it last year,” McGann said. “He has started to take some ownership of the team and we trust him to make plays for us.” Central jumped to a 34-18 halftime lead and never looked back. “La Crosse Central is a team I have a lot of respect for,” McGann said. “They always play so hard and are really well coached. They pressured us the entire game and it took us a bit to get going. We had two three-minute stretches that cost us that game.” • McFarland 54, Sauk Prairie 52 — Andres had another big game with 18 points, but the Eagles fell just short against the Spartans. “McFarland is one that hurts because we lead a vast majority of the game,” McGann said. “That game will be a teaching point for us moving forward and one we can learn a lot from the film.” • On deck: Sauk Prairie was at Dodgeville Tuesday, then is at Mount Horeb Thursday at 7 p.m.
