Swimmers second at conference

The Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights boys swimming team finished second at the Badger Small Conference championships held Feb. 8 at Jack Young Middle School in Baraboo.  McFarland captured first with 544 points, while the Eagles were second with 407. Baraboo (326), Stoughton (325.50), Madison Edgewood (288.50) and Mount Horeb (41) rounded out the team scoring. The Eagles’ 400-yard freestyle relay team of Adam Kaukl, Ethan Goodman, Levi Shadewald and Connor McQueen finished third. Sauk/Heights also had a sixth place finish in that event from the foursome of Brayden Birkett, Ian Quayle, Joseph Burton and Evan Schultze. The Eagles’ quartet of Goodman, Jacob Klein, Kaukl and Reid Rinabarger was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, while the team of Quayle, Birkett, Cy Welch and Quintin Larsen was sixth. And in the 200-yard medley relay, the foursome of Shadewald, Klein, Kaukl and McQueen was fifth, while the quartet of Rinabarger, Welch, Schultze and Larsen was seventh. Individually, Shadewald won the 500-yard freestyle relay, while Birkett was fifth and Joseph Burton was sixth. Goodman was second in the 100-yard freestyle, while Welch was ninth. Goodman was also third in the 50-yard freestyle, while McQueen was 10th. Kaukl was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly, Klein was fifth and McQueen was ninth. Welch was fourth in the 200-yard IM, while Rinabarger was sixth. Shadewald was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, while Birkett was ninth. Klein was also fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke. Rinabarger added a sixth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, while Schultze was ninth and Larsen was 10th. • On deck: Sauk Prairie will host a WIAA Division 2 sectional Saturday at 1 p.m. Other schools competing include Baraboo, Edgerton/Evansville, Madison Edgewood, Fort Atkinson, Jefferson/Cambridge, McFarland, Mount Horeb, Platteville/Lancaster, Stoughton and Beaver Dam Wayland Academy.
