On the Same Page: All Bottled Up program next week at Reedsburg Public Library
There’s something for everyone next week at Reedsburg Public Library, but a special treat will be the presentation by Sauk County Historical Society’s Paul Wolter, on Monday, July 14, at 6 p.m. in the library’s Community Room.
Wolter’s program, All Bottled Up! From Badger Brew to Pape’s Pop: the History of Bottling in Reedsburg will bring to the fore a newly researched aspect of the area’s history. The desire for a nice cool refreshing beverage has been around ever since beverages could be chilled. The advent of bottling meant that chilled drinks could be portable as well. Reedsburg had two long-standing bottled beverage manufacturers, the Reedsburg Brewery and the Reedsburg Bottling Works.
The brewery made beer for over 75 years including Badger Brew and Blue Wing beer, and the bottling works made twelve different flavors of soda pop and other non-alcoholic carbonated drinks. Do you remember Pape’s Pop or have an old Reedsburg Brewery bottle? Come and learn about the history of bottling in Reedsburg. There is no registration required to attend this program.
Earlier in the day, Assistant Library Director Caitlin Opatik will host Grown Up Monday Fun Day at 2 p.m. in the library’s Community Room. Join us to watch the recent movie about a papal conclave in Rome – with a surprise ending.
Get your book now to participate in the library’s book discussion group on Tuesday, July 22, at either 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. New participants are always welcome! This month’s selection is the popular book “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. Join us for what is sure to be an interesting discussion about one woman’s experience as a combat nurse in the Vietnam War.
Young Time Travelers will take a trip to the moon in the Time Traveler’s session for students entering grades two through five on Tuesday, July 15, at 2 p.m. Be sure to register your child at least 24 hours in advance for this program featuring moon, planet and space facts, and historic space flights.
Teen Time on Wednesday, July 16, at 2 p.m. will be a Field Day with lots of outside activities including badminton, cornhole and ring toss. Field Day will be set up on the library’s back lawn for tweens and teens going into grade six and up.
On Thursday, July 17, Loganville Little Library will meet at the Loganville Village Hall at 10 a.m. for stories and crafts for all ages. Later in the afternoon, Discovery Days participants Grades K through 5 will experience a Water Day on the library’s back lawn. Students should be prepared to get wet as they discover the various properties of water and have fun at the same time. Be sure to register 24 hours in advance. On Friday, July 18, preschool storytime will meet in the library’s Community Room.
