Ho-Chunk mural dedicated at Great Sauk State Trail

On Tuesday, Oct. 8, the mural Connectedness, created by the Ho-Chunk and White Earth Ojibwe artist Christopher Sweet, was dedicated on the Great Sauk State Trail. The mural is located in Fuchs Park in Sauk City.

The welcome was given by Tywana German, executive director of the Sauk Prairie Area Chamber of Commerce.

Respiratory virus season is underway in Wisconsin, and it's common this time of year for people to seek antibiotics when sick.

When used correctly, antibiotics can help you feel better and save lives.

However, when taken unnecessarily, they can cause harmful side effects and contribute to antibiotic resistance.

Nature is calming medicine

My preparations for the upcoming gun deer season took me on a walk through the woods the other day.

While my purpose was to prepare my deer stand, I also needed the walk for therapeutic reasons. A busy work schedule and non- stop political ads and news had put my brain into overload mode. 

I needed to unplug.

Ho-Chunk Nation wins Emmy

The Ho-Chunk Nation has earned an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Public Affairs Program Short Form. The winning entry was a digital short titled, The Impact of the Indian Child Welfare Act.

The Nation partnered with Discover Wisconsin and was recognized during the 66th Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards.

Keyeski wins seat in newly reformed Senate district

A 6,000-vote lead built in the northwest parts of Dane County carried Democratic Wisconsin Senate District candidate Sarah Keyeski to victory last week.

Keyeski broke even with her opponent, Republican Joan Ballweg, in the more populous counties of Sauk and Columbia.

Wisconsin’s whitetails are beginning their mating season. Bucks, all ages, will begin to show little fear and respect of people, automobiles, display windows, and roadway deer crossing signs.

Badger Honor Flight to transport 5,000th veteran

The next Badger Honor Flight will achieve a milestone.

The 5,000th veteran to benefit from the program will be part of the departure, which will take place on Nov. 2. The flight, which will include 87 veterans, will leave from Madison and visit Washington, D.C.

DMV releases Crane Foundation license plates

The Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles has unveiled a new specialty license plate, which celebrates and raises money for the International Crane Foundation.

The organization is dedicated to saving cranes and ecosystems, as well as watersheds and flyways. It is based out of Baraboo.
