Naturally Speaking: Frugivorous feeders

It is food most times, not weather, which send animals scurrying to new locations when seasons change.

Birds, for example, are generally seed eaters, insect eaters or plant fluid consumers. Some are more generalists and consume a variety of energy sources.

Kids from Reedsburg, Wonewoc finish 1,000 Books before Kindergarten

Graham Kruse, 5, and Harper Birdsill, 2, completed the 1,000 Books before Kindergarten challenge at the Reedsburg Public Library. This early literacy program is now available online. For more information about this program for children up to age 5, visit reedsburglibrary.beanstack.org.

Lake Redstone book will return to presses

An out-of-print chronicle of Lake Redstone will soon be available once again for readers.

Author Don Grossnickle announced plans to do a commemorative memorial edition of “Building Lake Redstone: An Illustrated History.” Grossnickle wrote the book with Steve Blakeslee and Ike Isaacson, the lake’s developer who passed away in 2018.

Sauk County sees slight decline in coronavirus cases

According to the latest data, Sauk County had 69 active COVID-19 cases as of early Tuesday morning.

That’s six cases lower than the week prior.

Numbers date back to when coronavirus first arrived in the county this past spring.

So far, 512 people have recovered, which is 11 more than the week before.

Reedsburg, Cazenovia residents earn academic honors

Two area scholars made the Dean’s List at the University of Wisconsin-Superior for the summer.

To qualify, students must complete at least 12 credits and earn a GPA of at least 3.5.

Honorees include Craig Braunschweig of Reedsburg and Christina Hagen of Cazenovia.
