Wisconsin Heights’ girls volleyball team finished in fourth place at the Beaver Dam Invitational last Saturday. “We didn’t play our best volleyball, but there were plenty of shining moments,” Heights coach Kala O’Connell said. The Vanguards opened with a 25-20, 25-15 win over Mayville.

Sauk Prairie girls swimming coach Melani Guentherman knew that visiting DeForest would provide a tough early-season test for her squad. The Norskies did exactly that. Sauk Prairie recorded seven second-place finishes, including all three relays, but fell to visiting DeForest, 110-60, in a Badger North Conference dual on Sept. 9.

Sure, a title would have nice. But after Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team settled for second place at their own tournament last Saturday, Eagles coach Amy Schlimgen wasn’t complaining.

Conditions couldn’t have been much better for the 42nd annual Blackhawk Invitational hosted by River Valley last Saturday, and Sauk Prairie’s boys and girls cross country teams made the most of it.

Sauk Prairie’s football team had not trailed in a game this season and was undefeated after three weeks. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.

There were no surprises. No mysteries. Just frustration. Wisconsin Heights’ football team suffered its first loss of the season last Friday, falling to Belmont, 43-16. The same two teams met during a scrimmage in August, so Heights (3-1 overall) knew just how good Belmont (3-1) was.
