Eagles’ co-op hockey team tops Regents

Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team skated past Madison West, 4-2, on Jan. 31. Landon Froese had two goals to lead the Eagles, who have skaters from Sauk Prairie, Mount Horeb, Wisconsin Heights and River Valley. Connor Grant added a goal and an assist, while Ryan Rickard also had a goal. Brock Hill had two assists, while Benjamin Hanko, Gunnar Nachreiner and Greyden Schomber all had assists. After West took a 1-0 lead early in the first period, Rickard scored an even strength goal on an assist from Grant that tied the game, 1-1, at the 6:51 mark of the first. Froese then had an even strength goal on assists from Nachreiner and Hill that gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead at 12:04 of the first. West scored at 1:17 of the second period to tie the game, 2-2. But Grant countered with what became the game-winning goal at 7:31 of the second period on an assist from Hanko that gave Sauk Prairie a 3-2 lead. Froese then scored an empty net goal with just 18 seconds left in the third period to account for the final score. Corbin Domka finished with 23 saves and a .920 save percentage to pick up the win for the Eagles. • On deck: Sauk Prairie was at Madison Edgewood Tuesday, then travels to Tomah/Sparta Thursday at 7 p.m. The Eagles then host Milton Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and wrap up the regular season Feb. 10 with a trip to Waunakee at 7:15 p.m. The postseason then begins Feb. 18.
