Hockey Eagles win two of three
Sauk Prairie’s boys hockey team won two of three games last week.
The Eagles — who also have players from Mount Horeb, Barneveld, River Valley and Wisconsin Heights — defeated Monroe, 5-4 in overtime on Jan. 7, fell to Waupun, 5-2, on Jan. 9, and toppled Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells, 6-3, on Jan. 11.
Sauk Prairie is now 6-10 overall and 4-4 in the Badger Conference.
Here’s a recap of the Eagles’ week:
• Sauk Prairie 5, Monroe 4 (OT) — Gunnar Nachreiner scored the game-winning goal 6:43 into overtime to lift the Eagles to a thrilling victory. Brock Hill and Lucas Rehlinger both assisted on the game-winning goal.
Sauk Prairie tied the game, 4-4, with just 2 minutes left in regulation when Nachreiner had an even strength goal. Quinn Payne and Ryan Rickard assisted on the play.
Nachreiner finished the game with three goals, while Hill had a goal and two assists, and Rickard had a goal and an assist.
Lucas Rehlinger, Connor Grant, Landon Froese and Payne all had assists, as well.
Corbin Domka had 28 saves and picked up the win in net.
• Waupun 5, Sauk Prairie 2 — Brock Hill and Gunnar Nachreiner had goals for the Eagles, but it wasn’t enough. Landon Froese and Kaleb Chetwood had assists for Sauk Prairie.
Corbin Domka had 23 saves for the Eagles.
• Sauk Prairie 6, Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells 3 — The Eagles built a 4-0 lead, then after Reedsburg/Dells crept within 4-3, Sauk Prairie had a pair of goals in the final 3 minutes.
Gunnar Nachreiner led the Eagles with a goal and three assists, while Landon Froese had a goal and two assists. Ryan Rickard had a goal and an assist, while Brock Hill, Josh Mast and Quinn Payne all added goals.
Corbin Domka had 20 saves and picked up the win.
• On deck: The Eagles were at Sun Prairie Tuesday, then face La Crosse Aquinas/Holmen Friday at 7 p.m. at the Onalaska Omni Center.
