Heights boys drop 3 of 4

Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team dropped three of four games over the holiday break and fell to 2-6 overall. The Vanguards have yet to play a Capitol South Conference game. Here’s a recap of Heights’ four games over the break.  • Wisconsin Heights 73, Wonewoc-Center 55 — Logan Duhr poured in 30 points to power the Vanguards to a win on Dec. 16. Mike Fancsali added 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Reed Adler had 11 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and two steals. Brayden Van Riper chipped in with nine rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks. Heights trailed, 33-29, at halftime, but went on a 25-4 second half run to pull away. Duhr led the way shooting 11-of-16 from the floor and 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. “He put a lot of time and effort into his game this offseason so it was nice to see that hard work pay off,” Heights coach Nolan Krentz said of Duhr. “I was pleased with our activity on defense as well, especially in the second half when we had 13 steals as well as several other deflections throughout the game.” • River Valley 76, Wisconsin Heights 63 — Reed Adler had 22 points and four assists in a losing effort for the Vanguards on Dec. 20. Lukas Lemke added 13 points, making all four of his shots, while Mike Fancsali had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Ethan Myers also chipped in with four assists and four steals. Heights trailed, 37-26, at halftime and by as many as 16 in the second half, but hung tough until the end. “River Valley has a really solid team this season so to be able to compete with them for much of the game was great to see,” Krentz said. • Boscobel 57, Wisconsin Heights 54 — Boscobel made three free throws in the final minute to break a 54-54 tie and escape with a win on Dec. 23. Heights overcame a 34-23 halftime deficit and a 14-point second half hole and fought back. Unfortunately for the Vanguards, they couldn’t make it all the way back.  “We showed great resiliency battling back multiple times during the second half, but in the end, we were not able to overcome our early mistakes,” Krentz said. Ethan Myers led the Vanguards with 14 points, six rebounds and four steals, while Reed Adler added 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Logan Duhr had 11 points and six rebounds, Mike Fanscali had 10 rebounds and three steals, and Brayden Van Riper added two steals and a block. • Kickapoo 54, Wisconsin Heights 50 — The Vanguards overcame an 11-point second half deficit, but fell short against Kickapoo on Dec. 27. “Once again, I was pleased with our ability to battle back and tie the game,” Krentz said. “Unfortunately, we need to do a better job on both ends of the court to keep from getting down by double-digits and having to try and rally.” Logan Duhr led the Vanguards with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Ethan Myers added 10 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Reed Adler added six rebounds, Mike Fancsali had four assists and three steals, and Brayden Van Riper had two blocks. “This was a fun game to be a part of and hopefully we can learn from it as we continue to get better,” Krentz said. “We have played extremely well in stretches this season and if we can put it all together for 36 minutes, we will start to win more of these close games.” • On deck: Heights hosted Poynette Tuesday, then hosts Cambridge Friday at 7:15 p.m.
