Eagles’ co-op hockey team drops a pair

Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team — which includes Mount Horeb, Barneveld, Wisconsin Heights and River Valley — dropped a pair of games last week. The Eagles fell to McFarland, 3-2, on Dec. 10. Sauk Prairie then dropped a 3-2 decision to South Central last Saturday. Here’s a recap of the Eagles’ games: • McFarland 3, Sauk Prairie 2 — The visiting Spartans raced to a 3-0 lead after one period, then had to hold on for dear life. Sauk Prairie’s Nolan Keith had an even strength goal on an assist from Josh Mast just 1:19 into the second period to pull the Eagles within 3-1.  Sauk Prairie’s Jacob Wiegman then scored on an assist from Carl Weiss at 5:55 in the third period. The Eagles couldn’t convert again, though, and McFarland left with an exciting win. Corbion Domka had 24 saves for the Eagles. • South Central 3, Sauk Prairie 2 — The host Navigators scored three straight third period goals and overcome a 2-0 deficit to edge the Eagles. Landon Froese and Ryan Rickard had goals for Sauk Prairie before South Central rallied back. • On deck: Sauk Prairie hosted Monona Grove Tuesday, then hosts Viroqua Friday at 7:30 p.m.
