Soccer Eagles earn No. 2 seed

They’ve gotten better every game, every week. And now, they hope to make some postseason noise. Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer team finished the regular season with a 5-0 dismantling of Mount Horeb and head to the playoffs with some momentum.  The Eagles received the No. 2 seed in their half of the WIAA Division 2 sectional and began the postseason by hosting No. 7 seed Reedsburg Tuesday. If Sauk Prairie won there, it would host the winner of third-seeded Baraboo and sixth-seeded La Crosse Central on Saturday. DeForest is the No. 1 seed on Sauk Prairie’s half of the bracket, and if seeds holds, the Eagles and Norskies would meet Oct. 31 in a sectional semifinal.  The sectional finals are Nov. 2. New Richmond, Holmen and Marshfield are the top three seeds on the other half of the bracket. If the Eagles reach the sectional finals, one of those teams would be the most likely opponent. “We have worked hard as a young side to get to the point we are at,” Eagles coach Drew Kornish said. “The team is currently as healthy as we will be for the rest of the season. We look forward to the challenge ahead with our sights set on a competitive road to the state tournament.” The Eagles finished the regular season 5-2 in the Badger Small Conference and 7-10-2 with their win over Mount Horeb. Lincoln Ganser led the way with two goals and an assist. Angel Ibarra added two goals and Zinedine Herrara  had a goal and an assist. Ben Hanko and Otis Andres both added assists. “Good game overall,” Kornish said. “We did well to hold Mount Horeb to no shots on goal.”
