Eagles’ runners fare well in Rapids

Sauk Prairie’s girls cross country team finished in sixth place at the 12-team Wisconsin Rapids Invitational last Saturday. Sauk Prairie’s boys were 11th overall. “The meet was challenging because of the level of competition and with all of the Homecoming festivities,” Eagles coach Andy Sherman said. “All of our runners were able to battle through both and run some impressive races.” Stevens Point won the meet with 70 points, while Manitowoc Lincoln was second (80). Monona Grove (104), Sun Prairie East (121) and Assumption (124) rounded out the top five. Sauk Prairie finished with 158 points. Aaliyah Bermudo led the Eagles with a 26th place finish, completing the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 54.7 seconds. Clarissa Brickl was 28th place finish (21:0.0), sophomore Savannah Liegel was 39th (21:25.2), junior Charlotte Gregg was 40th (21:26.0) and sophomore Evelyn Bahe was 41st (21:26.3). Stevens Point won the boys race with 30 points. The Eagles finished with 291 points. Junior Austin Smith led Sauk Prairie with a 47th place finish in 18:08.3. Junior Jacob Wiegmann was 50th (18:19.6), senior Charlie Endres was 66th (18:45.4), junior Hunter Brensike was 69th (18:49.7) and junior Carson Tucker was 74th (19:04.7). “Our boys ran very well,” Sherman said.
