Eagles’ soccer team heating up

The postseason is almost here. And Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer team is picking the perfect time to get hot. The Eagles rolled past Baraboo, 5-1, on Oct. 1. Sauk Prairie then bested Tomah, 8-4, on Oct. 4. Sauk Prairie improved to 6-7-2 overall and 4-1 in the Badger Small Conference. Here’s a recap of the Eagles’ week: • Sauk Prairie 5, Baraboo 1 — Cris Quezada Godoy scored three goals to power the Eagles past the Thunderbirds. Gio Garcia Martinez and Lincoln Ganser contributed with a goal each, rounding out the Eagles’ commanding win. “Cris showcased his offensive prowess,” Sauk Prairie coach Drew Kornish said. “His hat-trick performance kept Baraboo on the defensive throughout the match.” Baraboo (6-5-1, 3-2) and Sauk Prairie are in the same sectional, so the Eagles’ win over the Thunderbirds was an extremely important one. “Baraboo is not only a conference rival, but also stands in our sectional path,” Kornish said. “The win boosts our confidence as we continue to build momentum towards postseason play. With Quezada Godoy leading the charge, we have solidified ourselves as a team to watch.” • Sauk Prairie 8, Tomah 4 — The Eagles rolled in a rematch of a 2023 regional final that Sauk Prairie also won. “We overpowered Tomah,” Kornish said. “Our relentless attack was in full force, with a variety of scorers contributing to the high-powered offensive display.” Quezada Godoy and Ganser each found the back of the net twice, while Martinez added two goals of his own. Angel Ibbara and Zinedine Herrara also chipped in with one goal each. “This dominant win marks another important triumph over a sectional opponent, setting the stage for a promising postseason run,” Kornish said. “With the offense firing on all cylinders, we’re proving to be a formidable team as we look ahead to upcoming challenges. Friday night’s victory serves as a strong indication that we are ready for the road ahead in sectional play.” • On deck: Sauk Prairie was at Edgewood Tuesday, then face Madison Memorial Thursday at 7 p.m. at Madison College.
