Eagles win MG Invitational

The offense was humming. The defense was sublime. And Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team shined last Saturday when it won the Monona Grove Invitational. The Eagles went 5-0 on the day, won all 10 sets and rolled to the team title. Sauk Prairie is now 18-4 overall this season. “It was a good win for us,” Sauk Prairie coach Allison Steinmetz said. “We didn’t have a lot of tight matches because we played really well as a team. Everybody did their part. Communication, enthusiasm and smart plays were reasons why we won the tournament.” The Eagles opened with a 25-19, 25-10 win over Ripon. Gracyn Meyer had five kills, while Mallory Hartwig and Marissa Kruckman both had four kills. Greta Shadewald added 15 assists, while McKenna Murphy and Leah Allen both had four digs. Sauk Prairie then rolled past Madison East, 25-7, 25-15. Hartwig and Kruckman both had four kills, Shadewald had 17 assists and Hartwig added two aces. The Eagles then downed Sun Prairie East, 25-17, 25-19. Hartwig had 13 kills and Meyer added eight kills, while Kruckman had three aces and Shadewald had 23 assists. Sauk Prairie followed with a 25-13, 25-12 win over Stoughton. Hartwig had 10 kills and Meyer had eight, Shadewald had 21 assists and six aces, and Allen had 12 digs. The Eagles capped their big day with a 25-17, 25-11 win over Monona Grove. Hartwig had 10 kills, while both Kruckman and Alaina Kraemer had five kills. Shadewald added 17 assists, while Allen had six digs. The Eagles also won a pair of Badger Small Conference matches. • Sauk Prairie 3, Madison Edgewood 0 — The Eagles rolled to a 25-22, 26-24, 25-17 win on Sept. 24. Hartwig led Sauk Prairie with 19 kills, while Shadewald had 37 assistsm and Meyer had five aces and three blocks. • Sauk Prairie 3, Baraboo 0 — The Eagles cruised to a 25-17, 25-16, 25-12 win on Sept. 26. Shadewald had 29 assists and five aces, while Hartwig had 12 kills and five aces.
