Sauk Prairie’s lacrosse team heads to postseason

Sauk Prairie’s co-op boys lacrosse team will begin the postseason Friday when the 15th-seeded Eagles host 18th-seeded Brookfield’s co-op team at 7 p.m. If the Eagles win there, they would travel to second-seeded Kettle Moraine/St. John’s Northwestern in a regional semifinal on May 28. Sauk Prairie ended the regular season with three losses. Here’s a look back at Sauk Prairie’s week. • Waunakee 13, Sauk Prairie 1 — The Eagles fell to the No. 1 ranked Warriors on May 14. Senior defenseman Karsyn Banta had Sauk Prairie’s lone goal. “Waunakee is number one in the state, our boys held tight through the first quarter, but Waunakee started pulling away in the second quarter,” Eagles coach Zach Lare said, “The lone goal was scored by Karsyn on a great individual effort. From a faceoff he picked up the loose ball and ran through three defenders.” • Sun Prairie 8, Sauk Prairie 4 — The Eagles honored seniors Karsyn Banta, Steve Romaker, Will Judge, Isaiah Torres, Willy Anderson and Ian Frosch before falling to the Cardinals on May 16. “We want to thank our senior class for all the time and energy they have put into the sport of lacrosse and our program,” Lare said. Judge had a goal and an assist, while AJ Klemm, Zander Kellogg and Hayden Struse-Clark all had one goal, as well. Drew Strathman had an assist for the Eagles. • Oregon 12, Sauk Prairie 3 — The Eagles fell to the host Panthers last Friday. Zander Kellogg, Isaiah Torres and Kaleb Chetwood all had goals for the Eagles, while Will Judge had an assist. “Playing on back to back nights our boys held tough for the first half,” Lare said. “The third quarter was dominated by Oregon at the face off X, which changed the game. Even in a tough loss it was great to see all our players keep their energy up as we head into playoffs.”
