Baseball Vanguards have tough week

Wisconsin Heights’ baseball team dropped three games last week. Here’s a recap of the Vanguards’ week. • Pecatonica 7, Wisconsin Heights 1 — Zac Sander, River Lubchansky and Quinn Payne all went 2-for-2, but it wasn’t enough for the Vanguards on May 7. Payne also had an RBI single for Heights, while Brayden VanRiper and River Lubchansky pitched well — giving up a combined seven hits and three earned runs. “We left eight men on base, including five in scoring position,” Heights manager Ted Severson said. • Waterloo 4, Wisconsin Heights 1 — The Pirates scored three runs in the sixth and rallied past the Vanguards on May 8. Reed Adler pitched well in a complete game effort, scattering seven hits. River Lubchansky led the Vanguards’ offense, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. “We left 10 runners on base and we left the bases loaded in the first and seventh innings and had men on second and third in the third inning,” Severson said. “Hats off to Waterloo for coming up with some great plays to end our scoring threats.” • Lake Mills 11, Wisconsin Heights 5 — Lucas Lemke went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, but the Vanguards fell to the L-Cats on May 9.  Charlie Reader added two RBIs and Fin Hinderman had an RBI, as well in a losing effort. “We played well but Lake Mills just played better,” Severson said.
