Sauk Prairie track teams shine at Dells

Sauk Prairie’s track teams continue to shine, even when the weather becomes dark. The Eagles’ girls finished in second place at the rain-soaked, nine-team Wisconsin Dells Invite on May 10. DeForest won the team title with 147.5 points, while Sauk Prairie (131.33), Ripon (100.5), Portage (80.3) and Marshall (56.3) rounded out the top five. On the boys’ side, DeForest won the team title with 160 points. Mauston was second at 123, while Marshall (110), Sauk Prairie (86) and Ripon (82) rounded out the top five. Here’s a recap of the Eagles’ top-five finishes:           GIRLS • The Eagles’ 3,200-meter relay team of Evelyn Bahe, Charlotte Gregg, Kassie Gavol and Kylie Hutchins finished first in 10:32.84. Ripon was a distant second, nearly 13 seconds behind the Sauk Prairie quartet. • Sauk Prairie’s foursome of Ayla Sorg, Mari Ella Viola, Ella Weigel and Lexi Been won the 800-meter relay in 1:47.57, well ahead of the runner-up foursome from Ripon (1:52.02). • The Eagles’ quartet of Sorg, Viola, Weigel and Been also won the 400-meter relay in 50.69 seconds, well ahead of second place DeForest (53.64). “Each relay ran their fastest times of the season and are ready to move into the championships to see how far they can get,” Sauk Prairie coach Andy Sherman said. • Viola won the 100-meter dash in 12.60 seconds, while Weigel was fifth (13.72). • Reagan Chrisler won the pole vault (7-6) with her best mark ever. “She has been so close and I know she is ready to break through,” Sherman said of Chrisler. • Been was second in the long jump (15-10 ½), while Kaya Howard was third (15-6) and Sorg was fifth (15-2 ¼). • Been was second in the triple jump (33-7), while Ava Sandeman was third (33-1) and Howard was fifth (30-1). • Claire Hartman was third in the 100-meter hurdles (17.64). • Lainey Dillon was third in the 1,600-meter run (5:51.92) and teammate Catherine Gregg was fifth (6:05.54). • Leah Emgelby was fourth in the high jump (4-8). • Sydney Moore was fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:05.67). • Maggie Barrett was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (54.69). • Sauk Prairie’s 1,600-meter relay team was fifth. • Clarissa Brickl was fifth in the 800-meter run (2:40.46).   BOYS • Michael Blau won the high jump with a leap of 6-feet. “Michael is getting back to being the great high jumper we know he can be, and he is doing it at the right time,” Sherman said. • Sam Logterman won the long jump with a mark of 22 feet, ½-inch. That was exactly 3-feet better than runner-up Max Timpel of Marshall (19-0 ½). “Thankfully, he hit a big jump in the prelims because as the storm came in, the event was stopped early,” Sherman said of Logterman. • Taylen Young won the discus with a toss of 134 feet, 5 inches, establishing a new personal-record by more than 12 feet. “He works hard and wants to be great,” Sherman said of Young. “Taylen has an energy that is infectious and it is helping our throwers.” • Sauk Prairie’s 800-meter relay team was second in 1:34.93, just behind team champion Marshall (1:34.11). • The Eagles’ 400-meter relay team was third in 45:52. • Jacob Sherman was third in the discus (127-11). • Trent Backeberg was third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.44). • Landon Schultz was third in the 400-meter dash (53.39). • John Fabian was fourth in the triple jump (40-8). • Sauk Prairie’s 3,200-meter relay team was fourth and its 1,600-meter relay team was fifth. “Our boys continue to grow and gain experience,” Andy Sherman said. “We have some very solid juniors and seniors, but our depth comes from our freshmen and sophomores. As these boys get older, with the talent they have, there is great hope that they will carry on the tradition of Sauk Prairie track and field.
