Eagles’ tennis team tops Preble

Sauk Prairie’s boys tennis team had an extremely busy week, with seven matches in a six-day window. The good news is the Eagles finished their week in style with a 4-3 win over Green Bay Preble. The bad news is Sauk Prairie lost its first six matches of the week. Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s week: • Portage 6, Sauk Prairie 1 — The host Warriors won all four singles matches and two of three in doubles on May 6. Ayden Wildman and Sebastian Gavol rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win for the Eagles at No. 1 doubles over Portage’s Johnathan Stout and Renato Puglia. “We came away with a dominating win from our No. 1 doubles team,” Sauk Prairie coach Morgan Lee said. “After a challenging weekend, the two regrouped together very nicely.” Adam Kaukl and Levi Shadewald gave a spirited effort at No. 2 doubles, before dropping a 6-4, 2-6, 10-3 decision to Portage’s Izaiah Andersen and Brayden Walters. “No. 2 doubles lost a heartbreaker,” Lee said. “They went back and forth with their opponents in the first set … until they fell 6-4. “They got to work quickly (in the second set) and Levi did a great job of setting Adam up to be offensive at the net in the second set. We then began the tiebreak, where I think nerves got the best of these two. These two have now had three tiebreaks in the past three days, showing they can battle right with their opponents until the end.” • McFarland 6, Sauk Prairie 1 — Sebastian Gavol and Ayden Wildman rolled to a win at No. 1 doubles, but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles fell to the Spartans on May 8. Gavol and Wildman defeated Caden Komro and Cole Willems, 6-2, 6-1. “Very dominating night for our No. 1 doubles team,” Lee said. “They played in sync and attacked well.” At No. 2 singles, Charlie Endres gave a spirited effort before falling, 6-3, 6-4 to Oliwier Martinka. “Charlie fought right on the heel of his opponent until the end, and did a great job of approaching at the net,” Lee said. And at No. 3 doubles, Wyatt Frey and Sean Jager battled before dropping a 6-3, 7-5 decision to Ryan Hudgens and Connor Spahos. “Wyatt displayed a lot of aggressive shots, while Sean did a good job of placing his shots away from his opponents to set Wyatt up,” Lee said. “This match was just the difference of a few points.”   SHEBOYGAN INVITE The Eagles played five matches in two days at the Sheboygan Invite. • Green Bay Preble 4, Sauk Prairie 3 — The Eagles won all three doubles matches, but fell just short against Preble last Friday. Sebastian Gavol and Ayden Wildman notched a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Levi Shadewald and Adam Kaukl earned a hard fought 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 2. And at No. 3, Sean Jager and Wyatt Frey pulled out a thrilling 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 win. “We had a good match against Preble,” Lee said. • Germantown 7, Sauk Prairie 0 — The Warhawks rolled past the Eagles last Friday. Sauk Prairie’s Charlie Endres gave a spirited effort at No. 2 singles, before falling to Germantown’s Braeden Sinden, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6. • Plymouth 7, Sauk Prairie 0 — The Eagles lost all seven matches in straight sets last Friday. • Sheboygan South 5, Sauk Prairie 2 — The Eagles notched two doubles wins, but couldn’t muster any other victories and fell to the Eagles on May 11. At No. 1 doubles, Ayden Wildman and Sebastian Gavol defeated South’s  Ben Beumler and Misael Gonzales, 6-1, 6-1. And at No. 3 doubles, Sauk Prairie’s Wyatt Frey and Sean Jager posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over South’s Angel Aguirre and Andrew Yang. • Sauk Prairie 4, Green Bay Preble 3 — The Eagles notched three singles wins and one on the doubles side and edged Preble last Saturday. At No. 1 singles, Sebastian Gavol defeated Isaac Fagre, 7-5, 6-3, while at No. 3, Charlie Endres rolled past Carson Kline, 6-1, 6-2. And at No. 4, Adam Kaukl edged Abe Eastman, 4-6, 6-1, 10-5.
