Softball Eagles go 0-4 in rough week

Sauk Prairie’s girls softball team dropped all four of its games last week and fell to 2-13 on the season.  The Eagles are also 1-8 in the Badger Small Conference. Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s week: • River Valley 5, Sauk Prairie 3 — The Eagles pounded out 10 hits, but fell to visiting River Valley on April 29. Natalie Zick, Alayna Robertson and Riley Kerl all had two hits for Sauk Prairie. Kylee Ballweg, Robertson and Kerl all had RBIs, as well. Kerl threw well for the Eagles, allowing four earned runs in seven innings, but took the loss. Kerl struck out two, walked one and allowed eight hits.  • Mount Horeb 13, Sauk Prairie 3 (6) — The host Vikings struck for eight runs in the first inning and used that as a springboard to topple the Eagles in a game stopped after six innings due to the mercy rule on April 30. Sauk Prairie grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a run-scoring single by Thea Harpold and a two-run home run by Lexi Cegielski. But Mount Horeb answered right back with eight runs in the bottom of the frame. Lily Nurkula started the game for the Eagles, but lasted just 1/3 of an inning. Riley Kerl finished up in relief. • Madison Edgewood 9, Sauk Prairie 1 — The Eagles had seven hits against the host Crusaders on May 1, but couldn’t get the timely hits when necessary. Riley Kerl had an RBI single that plated Alayna Robertson with Sauk Prairie’s lone run. Kerl also threw 5 1/3 innings and took the loss for the Eagles. • Reedsburg 7, Sauk Prairie 0 — The visiting Eagles managed just four hits and fell to the Beavers on May 3. Lily Nurkula worked five innings for Sauk Prairie and allowed seven runs to take the loss. Nurkula struck out six, but walked eight and allowed seven hits. • On deck: The Eagles hosted Edgewood Monday and Portage Tuesday, then host Baraboo Wednesday at 5 p.m. Sauk Prairie then travels to McFarland Thursday at 5 p.m. and heads to Stoughton on Friday at 5 p.m.
