Eagles’ track teams enjoy terrific week

Sauk Prairie track and field teams fared well at the Wisconsin Rapids Invite last Friday. The Eagles’ girls finished in third place out of six teams, while Sauk Prairie’s boys were fourth.  “We were able to take our whole team to a Friday night varsity meet, which has not happened in all of my years coaching here at Sauk Prairie,” Eagles coach Andy Sherman said. Here are the Eagles that earned top-five finishes:   GIRLS • MariElla Viola won the 100- and 200-meter dash. She was also part of the Eagles’ 400-meter relay team — along with Ayla Sorg, Ella Weigel and Lexi Been — that finished first. “MariElla Viola continues to have great success, winning the 100- and 200-meter and blowing open the 4x100 meter relay with her teammates,” Sherman said. “MariElla was chosen as the Female Athlete of the Meet for her success and the great times she ran that night.” • Charlotte Gregg won the 800-meter run. “Charlotte won in a nice time, running a very strategic race,” Sherman said. • Lexi Been won the triple jump, while Ava Sandeman was second. • Sauk Prairie’s 400-meter relay team of Ayla Sorg, Viola, Ella Weigel and Lexi Been was first. • Sorg was second in the long jump. • Sauk Prairie’s 3,200-meter relay team of Charlotte Gregg, Evelyn Bahe, Aaliyah Bermudo and Kassie Gavol was second. • The Eagles’ 800-meter relay team of Sorg, Claire Hartman, Weigel and Been was second. • Sauk Prairie’s 1,600-meter relay team of Sorg, Bahe, Charlotte Gregg and Been was third. • Lainey Dillon was third in the 3,200-meter run, while Clarissa Brickl was fourth and Catherine Gregg was fifth. • Bahe was fourth in the 400-meter dash. • Aaliyah Bermudo was third in the 1,600, while Lainey Dillon was fourth and Emerson Drew was fifth. • Maggie Barrett was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles. • Sydney Moore was fifth in the high jump.   BOYS • Sauk Prairie’s 3,200-meter relay team of Taylor Isenring, Drake Brensike, Jacob Wiegmann and Gavin Carncross was first. • The Eagles’ 800-meter relay team of Wyatt Gibbs, Landon Schultz, John Fabian and Michael Blau was first. • Blau won the high jump. • Trent Backeberg was second in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the triple jump. • Wiegmann was third in the 1,600-meter run and Isenring was fifth. • Fabian was third in the long jump. • Sauk Prairie’s 400-meter relay team of Gibbs, Schultz, Fabian and Blau was third. • Cade Gibbs was third in the discus. • Carncross was fifth in the 800-meter run. • The Eagles’ 1,600-meter relay team of Isenring, Brensike, Carson Tucker and Carncross was fifth. “The boys had a great night as well,” Sherman said.    PORTAGE QUAD The Eagles competed at Portage on April 30. Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s top three finishers in each event.   GIRLS • MariElla Viola won the 100-meter dash and Lexi Been was third. Viola also won the 200-meter dash. • Emerson Drew was second in the 3,200 and teammate Clarissa Brickl was third. • Charlotte Gregg was second in the 1,600-meter run and Evelyn Bahe was third. • Kaya Howard was second in the long jump. • Lainey Dillon was second in the 800-meter run. • Maggie Barrett was third in the 300-meter hurdles. • Been was third in the triple jump. • Sauk Prairie’s 1,600-meter relay team of Catherine Gregg, Dillon, Kylie Hutchins and Ziah Been was third. “We focused on individual performances,” Sherman said. “It is nice having Kaya Howard back in the jumps. She provides depth to the long jump with Ayla Sorg and in the triple jump with Lexi Been and Ava Sandeman. Leah Engelby continues to jump well for us in the high jump.”   BOYS • Caleb Breunig won the long jump. • John Fabian won the triple jump. • Sauk Prairie’s 3,200-meter relay team of Drake Brensike, Hunter Brensike, Cyrill Welch and Gavin Carncross was second. • Nick Dunnum was second in the discus. • Wyatt Gibbs was second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100-meter. John Fabian was also third in the 200. • Jacob Wiegmann was third in the 1,600-meter run. “ Wyatt Gibbs and John Fabian had some big nights for us in the sprints and jumps,” Sherman said. “They have continued to work hard, gaining a lot of experience which will have them ready for the championship phase.  “Our boys throwers did a nice job. Nic Dunnum, Taylen Young and Jacob Sherman continue to get better in the discus, while Young and Sherman both continue to move up the ranks in the shot put.”
