Hanna hurls no-hitter

Marta Hanna has flashed immense potential the last two seasons. He’s had a handful of impressive starts for Sauk Prairie’s baseball team. But nothing compares to Hanna’s outing last Saturday. Hanna threw a no-hitter to power the Eagles to an 8-0 win over visiting River Valley. In seven innings of work, Hanna didn’t allow a hit, struck out six and walked three. Hanna faced just 22 batters in his dominant, complete-game win. “It was definitely Marty’s day,” Sauk Prairie manager Darin Pape said. “He was able to get ahead of hitters, and keep them off balance.” Hanna also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Jackson Breunig also had a terrific day, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Cole Helgerson added two RBI and Cayden Hermsdorf had a hit and scored a pair of runs. “Saturday was a great accomplishment for Marty,” Pape said. “It was a total team effort in the game.   “We had great offensive support ... and our players contributed with solid defense and no errors on the day.   “There were a couple of defensive gems preserving the no hitter. Every defender did a great job, which is what you need for a no hitter.” Hanna’s effort — and the Eagles’ win — were the highlights in a week that saw Sauk Prairie go 2-2.  The Eagles are now 5-11 overall and 1-8 in the Badger Small Conference.
