Eagles’ tennis team drops three matches

Sauk Prairie’s boys tennis team three matches last Saturday during its trip to La Crosse. La Crosse Central toppled the Eagles, 6-1. La Crosse Logan then downed Sauk Prairie, 7-0, and Holmen defeated the Eagles, 6-1. The matches were played in 36-degree temperatures and a windchill of 28 degrees. “This might have been the coldest tennis day I have ever coached in,” Eagles’ coach Morgan Lee said. “Despite the cold temps, our players gave it their all throughout the day.” Against Central, Sauk Prairie’s No. 1 doubles team of Ayden Wildman and Sebastian Gavol notched a thrilling, three-set win, 4-6, 7-5, 10-3.  “We had a great showing from our doubles team,” Lee said The Eagles’ four singles players — Boden Bruni, Charlie Endres, Adam Kaukl and Jack Haake — all lost in straight sets. Sauk Prairie’s No. 2 doubles team of Gavin Krueger and Levi Shadewald and the No. 3 doubles team of Wyatt Frey and Sean Jager also lost in straight sets. The Eagles then dropped a 7-0 match to Logan. Wildman and Gavol were the Eagles’ most competitive players, dropping a 7-5, 6-1 decision at No. 1 doubles. Sauk Prairie lost the other matches in straight sets, as well. “I felt that our team as a whole seemed very flat in our second match,” Lee said. Sauk Prairie then fell to Holmen, 6-1. Wildman and Gavol had the Eagles’ lone win, notching an impressive 5-7, 7-5, 10-7 win over a Holmen duo. “This was Gavol-Wildman’s first time playing together, and they showed a lot of grit and determination today,” Lee said.   La Crosse Central 6, Sauk Prairie 1 Singles: No. 1 — Drake Wonderling, La Crosse Central, def.
