Eagles’ track teams shine at own invite

Sauk Prairie’s track teams hosted a relay invite last Friday and got several solid performances. The Eagles’ girls were fifth at the eight-team invite, while the boys were seventh out of eight teams. Waunakee won the girls’ meet with 102 points, while Madison Edgewood (98.50), Holmen (91), Monroe (73) and Sauk Prairie (59) rounded out the top five. Holmen and Lodi tied for the boys’ title with 93 points. The Eagles finished with 54 points. “Even though the weather was cold and very windy, the competition was incredible,” Sauk Prairie coach Andy Sherman said. “Having such a beautiful facility and being able to showcase amazing high school talent is such a blessing.”  Here were Sauk Prairie’s top-five finishers:   GIRLS • The Eagles’ 400-meter relay team of Ella Weigel, MariElla Viola, Ayla Sorg and Lexi Been placed third. That same foursome also finished third in the 800-meter relay. • Sauk Prairie’s 1,600 sprint medley team of MariElla Viola, Lexi Been, Charlotte Gregg and Aaliyah Bermudo was third. • Sauk Prairie’s 800 sprint medley relay team of Ella Weigel, Ayla Sorg, Claire Hartman and Sydney Moore was fourth. • Sauk Prairie’s 3,200-meter relay team of Evelyn Bahe, Aaliyah Bermudo, Catherine Gregg and Charlotte Gregg was fifth. • The Eagles’ distance medley relay team of Clarissa Brickl, Kylie Hutchins, Catherine Gregg and Lainey Dillon was fifth. • Sauk Prairie’s 300-meter shuttle hurdle team of Claire Hartman, Seneca Ruyle and Maggie Barrett was fifth. “Both of our hurdle relays (boys and girls) had two new runners who had never raced over a hurdle in competition,” Sherman said. “They all did really well and without them stepping up and offering to fill the spots, we would not have been able to be included in those relays.” • Kaya Howard was fifth in the long jump, while Ayla Sorg was sixth. “Kaya Howard was able to compete for the first time this season and led us in the long jump,” Sherman said. “It is good having her back to bolster our field events. “Ayla Sorg, new to track and field this year, tried the long jump and had the sixth best jump of the night in her first time long jumping.” • Ava Sandman was fourth in the triple jump, while Lexi Been was fifth. “Ava Sandeman set a new PR with a jump of 32’ 3.75”,” Sherman said.   BOYS • John Fabian was second in the long jump, while Sam Logterman was third. • Fabian was also second in the triple jump, while Trent Backeberg was third. “John Fabian continues to impress by being the second farthest jumper in both competitions and setting a new PR in the long jump (20-11),” Sherman said. “Sam Logterman tried the long jump for the first time ever and was the third ranked jumper of the night. Sam has been injured and out the last month, so it is really good to have him back. “Trent Backeberg asked to try the triple jump this week and in his first ever attempt at the event he also jumped the third best effort of the night. Trent has really come on, improving a ton in his 110-meter high hurdles and now adding the triple jump. He will be a very important piece to our team during the championship phase.” • The Eagles’ 400-meter relay team of Sam Logterman, John Fabian, Wyatt Gibbs and Michael Blau was third. • Sauk Prairie’s 1,600 spring medley team of Landon Schultz, Wyatt Gibbs, Trent Backeberg and Taylor Isenring was third. • The Eagles’ 3x110 meter shuttle hurdle team of Trent Backeberg, Drew Hicken and Aidan Powell was fifth. • Sauk Prairie’s 3,200-meter relay team of Taylor Isenring, Gavin Carncross, Drake Brensike and Micah Boerger was fifth.
