Eagles endure rough week

It’s been a rough start to the season for Sauk Prairie’s baseball team.
The Eagles lost all four of their games last week and fell to 1-6 on the young season.
Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s week:
• Platteville 5, Sauk Prairie 3 — Marty Hanna, Boden Frosch and Brason Ballweg all had RBI in a losing effort for the Eagles on April 8.
Host Platteville took a 4-0 lead after five innings, before the Eagles struck for three runs in the sixth. But Platteville answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth and held on.
Marty Hanna took the loss for Sauk Prairie, allowing one run in 3 1/3 innings. Hanna also struck out five and walked two.
• Mount Horeb 13, Sauk Prairie 10 — The visiting Vikings struck for eight runs in the final two innings and rallied past the Eagles on April 9.
Mount Horeb trailed, 10-5, heading to the top of the sixth when it struck for three runs. The Vikings then erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh to prevail.
“It wasn’t a pretty game by any means, but we kept battling and no one hung their heads,” Mount Horeb manager Ryan Finley said. “Getting three in the top of the sixth was huge and then we came up with a huge inning in the top of the seventh. Honestly, I feel like we stole one there.
“We didn’t play great baseball, but we came up big when it counted,” Ryan Finley said. “It’s great getting a road win in Sauk City where we haven’t had a lot of success in the past, so we’ll take it.”
Boden Frisch led the Eagles’ attack going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles and two runs scored. Jackson Breunig went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while Austin Pagel and Cayden Hermsdorf also had RBIs.

• Mount Horeb 11, Sauk Prairie 10 — The host Vikings erupted for eight runs in the first inning, then held off a late Eagles’ rally and toppled Sauk Prairie on April 10.
The Eagles rallied with four runs in the fourth and single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn’t come all the way back from their early deficit.
Jackson Breunig had a big day at the plate, with three RBI and two runs scored. Boden Frosch also scored three runs, Marty Hanna scored a pair of runs and Cole Helgerson drew three walks.
Brason Ballweg was the losing pitcher for Sauk Prairie.
• Lodi 7, Sauk Prairie 3 — The visiting Eagles jumped to a 2-0 lead, but couldn’t hold on last Friday.
Jackson Breunig had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Marta Hanna worked the first three innings, allowed four earned runs and took the loss.
• On deck: The Eagles hosted McFarland Tuesday, then travel to McFarland Thursday at 5 p.m. Sauk Prairie then hosts Tomah Friday at 5 p.m. and travels to Wisconsin Dells Saturday at 11 a.m.
