Three Eagles’ wrestlers earn all-conference recognition
Sauk Prairie had three wrestlers earn all-Badger Small Conference honors.
Austin Lankey, a 165-pounder, Lane Albers (190) and Logan McIntyre (215) all received second-team all-conference recognition.
Lankey finished in fifth place at the Badger Conference meet.
Lankey (23-10) split his first four matches before earning a fifth-place finish at 165 pounds on a medical forfeit by Stoughton’s Ethan Soderbloom.
“Lankey had a good day,” Eagles’ coach Matt Gaffney said that day. “He took fifth. Last year, he took sixth. So back to talking about small wins, you get one place better than the year before, that’s a win.”
Albers pinned Waunakee’s Aiden Burns in 2 minutes, 28 seconds in their 190-pound fifth-place match.
“I was pretty worked up. I had a lot of energy,” Albers said. “I was excited going into it that I was going to do pretty, well going into that match.
“I went into the last match in good spirits and won. That was a good deal.”
Gaffney said that Albers finishing the day with a victory took a little bit of the sting out of his 4-1 consolation-round loss to Stoughton’s Gaitlin Empey.
“Lane Albers getting fifth there at the end with a pin was huge,” Gaffney said. “It was nice to go out with a win.”
McIntyre was sixth at the conference meet, going 2-3 overall and dropping the fifth place match to Watertown’s Tyler Habersetzer.
