Sauk Prairie gymnasts named all-conference

Sauk Prairie’s girls gymnastics team had one of the finest seasons in school history. And the Eagles were justly rewarded, receiving several postseason awards. Sauk Prairie junior McKenna Breunig was one of three gymnasts named the Badger Conference Athlete of the Year. Breunig shared that honor with Mount Horeb’s Athena Ouradnik and Mya Tweedy of Monona Grove. Breunig was named second-team all-conference on the balance beam and the uneven bars, and honorable-mention all-league in the all-around competition. Senior Sara Nehring was named honorable-mention all-conference in the all-around competition and on the uneven bars. The average of the five-highest scores from the season were used to determine all-conference honors. “What a cool way to wrap up the season,” Eagles’ head coach Justine Anderson said. Breunig was third at the conference meet in the all-around competition with a sensational score of 35.30. Breunig was second at conference on the bars (9.150) and seventh on the beam (9.0). Nehring was sixth at the conference meet in the all-around (34.4250) and sixth on the uneven bars (8.70). The Eagles also set a school record with a 136.20 at the conference meet. Nehring later qualified for the state tournament on the vault, making her the first Sauk Prairie gymnast to reach state in multiple seasons. Nehring also became the Eagles’ all-time leader in varsity points. In addition, she set the school record on vault this year at sectionals (8.95) and tied the floor record (9.20) in 2022. Sauk Prairie’s Justine Anderson was also named the conference’s Coach of the Year.
