Vanguard Volleyball
Alumni Tourney
The third annual Vanguard Volleyball tournament on will be held on Dec. 28. You can choose players to represent a year or a combination of years.
The entry fee is $20 and includes a T-shirt. If you’ve played before and don’t need a shirt, the cost is $10 to play.
All other proceeds will be donated to Wisconsin Heights Volleyball. Please contact Amy Schlimgen at schlim44@hotmail.com to register your team.
Feel free to sign up as an individual and you will be assigned you to a team. More details will become available as the number of teams registered is determined.
Doherty honored
Mackenzie Doherty, a former Wisconsin Heights,standout and currently a junior at Edgewood College, was recently named first-team all-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference as well as NACC volleyball player of the week.
Doherty, who is also a nursing student, ranked fourth in the NACC this season with 3.33 kills per set, and was second in that statistical category during conference matches (3.47). Her 149 kills during 12 league contests also ranked second among NACC players as the junior finished the year with 383 kills.
For the season, Doherty hit .214 and seemed to get better as the season went along. Over the final week, Doherty had matches where she hit .424 and a .586, respectively. She also had 22 matches with double-digit kills, accomplishing the feat in 13 of the Eagles last 14 matches.
Doherty was also a strong defensive player for the Eagles, ranking second on the team with 244 digs. Doherty had nine matches with double-digit digs, finishing with a double-double in each of those contests. Doherty also totaled 30 service aces for the year, fourth most among Eagles.
