Eagles’ tennis team rolls on Senior Night

It was Senior Night for Sauk Prairie’s girls tennis team on Sept. 17. And the Eagles celebrated the best way they knew how — with a 7-0 shellacking of visiting Reedsburg. “Overall, I’m proud of the team’s performance,” Eagles coach Heather Slosarek said. “We hope to continue riding this wave.” Against the Beavers, top singles player Quinlyn Mack rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win, while No. 2 singles player Gaia Citro notched a 6-0, 6-0 win. Jordan O’Connor, who plays No. 3 singles, won 6-0, 6-1 and No. 4 singles player Taylor Haas won 6-2, 6-4. “Singles continued their strong court dominance only dropping two total games among three matches,” Slosarek said. “Quinlyn, Gaia, and Jordan were playing extremely well, placing their shots, showing great court awareness and keeping the foot on the accelerator.” In doubles play, Aimee Maasch and Haley Greenheck rallied for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 1. Camdyn Kastelitz and Hannah Helt rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, while Emily Querio and Grace Fauerbach posted a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles. “Hannah Helt and Camdyn Kastelitz were dialed in during their match,” Slosarek said. “Camdyn’s groundstrokes were unstoppable, while Hannah followed up with excellently placed net shots. “Emily Querio and Grace Fauerbach did a nice job reading the net player and placing their shots. No. 1 doubles started out strong, got a little behind in the second, and re-energized in the third set. By their last few games, they were back in No. 1 doubles form.” Here’s a look at the rest of the Eagles’ week: • Sauk Prairie 6, Baraboo 1 — The Eagles rolled in a Northern Badger Conference match on Sept. 16. Mack, Citro, O’Connor and Anna Ballweg all cruised to straight set singles wins. In doubles play, Sauk Prairie’s No. 2 team of Kastelitz and Helt won in straight sets. The Eagles’ No. 3 doubles team of Querio and Fauerbach rallied for a three-set win. • Madison Memorial 6, Sauk Prairie 1 — At the Big Eight-Badger Conference Challenge, the Spartans rolled past the Eagles. Naomi Breunig and Cassie Ziegler won at No. 3 doubles for Sauk Prairie. • Madison West 7, Sauk Prairie 0 — The Regents rolled past the Eagles at the Big Eight Badger Conference Challenge.
